Lancelot grape variety

Lancelot is a very successful new hybrid form of table grapes, bred by the breeders of VNIIViV them. ME AND. Potapenko from Novocherkassk. The variety was obtained by pollination of the Podarok variety by Zaporozhye with a mixture of Ecstasy pollen and FV-3-1 seedling. This hybrid is very reliable, has a stable high yield, the beauty of the bunches and the delicious taste of berries, and increased resistance to diseases.

The grape bushes are very vigorous. Leaves are medium, rounded, slightly dissected, reticulate-wrinkled, with weak pubescence on the underside. The flowers are bisexual.

The bunches are very large, broadly conical in shape, dense, with an average weight of 0.9-1.2 kilograms, some reaching 3 kg. Outstanding in size, they invariably delight with their pleasant weight and beauty. The berries are large, oval, milky white. Some berries become tanned in the sun. The average size of a Lancelot berry is 31 × 22 mm, the weight reaches 12-14 grams. There are 2-3 seeds in the berry, they are easily separated from the pulp. The skin is firm but not tough. The pulp is fleshy-crunchy, melting in the mouth. The taste is simple, harmonious sweet and sour, without nutmeg, but with a very distinct honey note in the aftertaste, which appears when the berries are fully ripe. Many fans appreciate the variety precisely for this taste of sweet honey, calling it divine. In this case, the tasting characteristics do not deteriorate even after storage.

The crop is used for fresh consumption and storage. Thanks to the strong skin and pulp, the bunches of this variety are distinguished by high transportability and sufficient keeping quality during storage.

Early-medium ripening grapes. The duration of the growing season from budding to full maturity of the berries is 125-130 days at a sum of active temperatures of 2700-2800 ° C. Shoots have time to ripen well for winter along their entire length. On average, 1.3-1.5 bunches are formed on one developed shoot. Sugar accumulation is high. The sugar content of berry juice is about 17-19% with an acidity of 6-7 g / l.

Lancelot has increased resistance to frost and major grape diseases. With three to four standard fungicide treatments, no signs of disease in the bushes are observed. The variety can withstand temperatures down to -24 ° C without damage. The variety is unpretentious in care and undemanding to the soil, but, like any plant, it responds to the improvement of the agricultural background. The berries do not crack or rot, they can hang on the bush for a long time after ripening. Due to the dense bunch, leaf rollers can bring certain damage to the crop, against which it is necessary to use insecticidal preparations. To protect against wasps, which are also ready to feast on sweet berries, it is advisable to use special mesh bags.

In the southern regions, the grapes do not require shelter in the winter, the high-stemmed bush management system. Thanks to its high vigor, it is possible to cultivate in arbor and arched culture, where the plant will give you shade and a good high-quality harvest. Being highly productive, Lancelot has a tendency to overload with bunches, in connection with which he needs high-quality pruning and rationing of the crop. The optimal load is 35-40 eyes per bush. When pruning, it must be borne in mind that the first few buds are not fruitful, therefore the length of the fruit arrows should be 6-8 eyes.

The variety is responsive to green operations and the removal of excess bunches after flowering. It should be noted right away that you should not excessively expose the ovary, so as not to expose the grapes to direct sunlight and, when ripe, do not get an unattractive brown tan on the skin.In general, if you ensure that only one bunch develops on a fruitful shoot, then Lancelot will certainly thank you with a high yield of excellent quality.

We call this variety "Autumn Fairy Tale". Indeed, the variety is fabulous! Those who see huge bunches on our table do not believe that such things can be grown in our difficult climate! The bunches grow huge (more than a kilogram) - if the year is with a good summer, then they ripen without difficulty, and if the summer is cool, then you have to hedge and remove part of the bunch. Lancelot's taste is too sweet for me, but the children really like it, simple - without nutmeg. Of the shortcomings, I also note that when the bush is overloaded, the vine does not ripen well, it happens that the berries in one bunch ripen unevenly.
