Gala potato variety

Almost all potato varieties require special care in order to obtain a harvest in the desired volume, since some must be planted in the ground at the right time, others must be collected in time, others are unstable to heat and drought, and the fourth are susceptible to various diseases and unfavorable conditions. In turn, the Gala potato variety, which is an early ripe high-yielding table potato, is able to save any plant grower from the many troubles of cultivating this agricultural crop. This variety is optimized by breeders, as a result of which it has a high plasticity to soil and climatic conditions of various types, which makes it universal for cultivation in almost all regions of our country.

Gala is currently one of the earliest ripening potato varieties. The ripening period for a full-fledged crop is only 70 - 80 days from the moment the seeds are planted in the ground. This is the optimal condition for the cultivation of this crop in the middle lane.

Gala potato shoots are a semi-erect plant of an intermediate type of medium height, covered with large leaves, rich green color, with a slight waviness of the edge. Inflorescence corolla is white, medium-sized.

Tubers are of medium size (the average weight of one tuber is 100 - 120 grams), round-oval (less often oval), covered with a yellowish skin of medium thickness. The pulp is pale yellow to deep yellow in color, has a low starch content (11 - 13%) and good taste. Gala potatoes remain intact, do not change the fiber structure during cooking and do not tend to darken.

Gala is a plastic, highly marketable, resistant to two types of nematode, an early variety of potatoes that has good taste, and ideally meets all the requirements of dietary nutrition, since it contains a small amount of starch and a large amount of carotene, and a beautiful form of tubers with small eyes, which greatly facilitates the cleaning process is very pleasant to the hostesses. Gala potatoes have good shelf life. At the same time, attention should be paid to the need to harvest the tops approximately 10 - 12 days before the start of the harvest. This measure contributes to the preservation of tubers until spring in excellent condition.

However, this species belongs to numerous varieties prone to damage by rhizoctonia, a fungus that infects the lower part of the plant stem. As a result, the implementation of measures (dressing) aimed at preventing this disease is a prerequisite for choosing the Gala potato variety, but otherwise it is very productive (up to 25 tubers per bush), high-quality (98%), a good variety with numerous advantages.

Gala potatoes are early, fruitful, if harvested late, the tubers will grow very large. But its taste is not very good. Potatoes are like potatoes ... Good for sale.

I liked this variety. It grows (in our strip, on the Middle Volga) very well. The yield is quite high. It boils well. Fries well. This year I planted three varieties (including “Gala”) - - of all three varieties (Yanka, Arosa and Gala), Gala still produces the highest results.

Answer to Sergey

Lilly is still in the lead in what we have, in the west both in taste, in yield, and in storage) However, it is worth considering that when planting it requires a greater distance than other varieties.

Gala was first tested on its site last year. The results were very pleasing, so a large area of the plot was planted with this variety this season. The potato bush differs from other varieties in its large volume of foliage, therefore it shades the aisles well. It is pleasant to see the lush bush versus the “palms” of a number of growing varieties. Before planting, we process the seeds with Prestige, so I can't say anything about the Colorado potato beetle. The action of the drug is enough until flowering, and then we do not consider it necessary to destroy the beetle larvae. The tubers grow medium and large in size, with difficulty it was possible to select potatoes for seeds, there are very few small items. Planted in mid-May, began to use in mid-July, harvested in mid-August. On the cut, the potato is yellow, does not darken. I liked that the pulp is boiled during cooking. It turns out to be excellent mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, fried, in soup and baked goods, also delicious. When cooled down, the dish does not lose its taste and looks the same. When stored in the underground, 15-20 tubers with dry rot from 5 bags came across. Gala has only positive impressions.
