Gulliver potato variety

Gulliver is an early ripe table potato variety (Solanum tuberosum) of Russian selection. Bred by the employees of the A. G. Lorkh All-Russian Research Institute of Potato Farming and Agrocenter Korenevo LLC. To obtain, the varieties of Concorde and Adora were used. In 2018, three years after filing an application for admission, our hero was included in the state register of breeding achievements of the Russian Federation. Zoned in two regions of Russia: Central (Bryansk, Tula, Ivanovsk, Kaluga, Vladimir, Moscow, Ryazan, Smolensk regions) and Central black earth (Kursk, Tambov, Oryol, Voronezh, Belgorod, Lipetsk regions). Differs in drought resistance and early amicable ripening. It is prized for its resistance to many nightshade diseases.

The period from the moment of emergence to harvest is 60-70 days. The first digging can be carried out on the 45th day of the potato growing season.

The plant is tall, of an intermediate type. Stems are semi-erect. The leaves are large, intermediate type, dark green in color. The corolla is medium, dull red-violet in color. The inner side of the corolla has a weak anthocyanin coloration.

In one nest of Gulliver, 5-11 large tubers with an average weight of 120-150 grams each can form. The weight of commercial copies is noted in the range of 106-139 grams. Tubers are oval-elongated. The skin is light beige, smooth, transparent. The pulp is creamy. The eyes are small, superficial, inconspicuous, their number is small.

According to the results of state tests, the marketable yield of the variety was 163-283 c / ha, which is 19-57 c / ha more than indicators Vineta... On the 45th day after full germination, during the first digging, it was possible to collect 109-221 kg / ha, at the level of the standard Luck and 25 c / ha more than Vega results. During the second digging, on the 55th day of potato growing, 155-278 c / ha were obtained, 57-120 c / ha more than the Vega and Vineta standards. The highest yield was recorded in the Kursk region - 371 c / ha, which is 167 c / ha higher than Vinet's standards. According to the oginator, the potential yield can reach 650 and even 700 c / ha. Marketability 84−98%. Keeping quality 95%.

Gulliver's taste is very good. The tubers are poorly boiled, they crack slightly when boiled, but do not lose their shape, they are easily cut into pieces, slices and lobes. The pulp is slightly dense, slightly mealy, slightly watery. The starch content in it is 14.1-15.4%, the minimum level is 11%. Potatoes are best suited for cooking in their skins and peeled, for making soups and salads, and for frying. It is especially good as a young boiled potato.

The variety is recommended for growing in regions with a mild climate, on fertile loose soils. Shows the best yield on soils rich in nutrient and mineral composition. Our hero is distinguished by drought tolerance, which allows him to cultivate him in areas with very hot summers. Plants are unpretentious in care, but there are several nuances of growing that can affect the yield.

  • Experts recommend germinating seed material before planting. This will improve the percentage of germination, and also contribute to the earlier ripening of Gulliver.
  • During the growing season of plants, it is necessary to carry out basic care measures. Hilling, weeding, loosening the soil, preventive treatments against insect pests and diseases, watering and feeding - all this greatly affects the health and productivity of plants.
  • Potatoes will respond well to fertilization in the soil. The more nutrients and minerals in the soil, the larger the tubers will be, as well as their number will grow.

The variety is resistant to cancer, golden cyst nematode, slightly affected by rhizoctonia and common scab, moderately resistant to wrinkled and banded mosaics. According to the All-Russian Research Institute of Phytopathology, it is moderately susceptible to late blight both in tubers and tops. At the same time, the originator claims that the plants are resistant to late blight.Still, you should play it safe and take appropriate preventive measures.

Gulliver appeared on the wide market quite recently, so he is not yet well known. However, those who have already tried to grow it are very pleased with the result. In terms of its performance, it outperforms not only many time-tested and experience-tested varieties, but also modern popular "novelties". The gardeners especially liked the very early amicable ripening of potatoes, its high yield, excellent taste, excellent keeping quality, excellent presentation, uniformity and uniformity of tubers in size and weight, which increases the yield of marketable products. One can also note the resistance of tubers to mechanical damage and darkening from impacts, as well as their suitability for washing. Thus, our hero is perfect for growing not only on personal household plots, but also on the production areas of large agricultural firms.

Gardeners also speak well of the unpretentiousness of the potato, its resistance to many diseases, including late blight. He showed himself excellently in various regions of the country. Summer residents were especially pleased with the drought resistance of plants, because not everyone has the opportunity to provide their plantings with regular watering.

Gulliver's flaws have not yet been found. There is only one caveat - according to gardeners' reviews, tubers are prone to germination, which can become a problem during long-term storage. Otherwise, our hero has a very large list of advantages, as well as great potential.
