Cabbage variety Amager 611

Amager 611 is an old proven variety of late-ripening white cabbage, bred by VNIISSOK. From the emergence of mass shoots to harvest, 117 - 148 days pass. In 1943, the variety was approved for use throughout the entire territory of the Russian Federation (North-West, Central, Volgo-Vyatka, Central Black Earth, North Caucasian, Middle Volga, Lower Volga, Ural regions), with the exception of the northernmost regions, in which the heads of cabbage do not have time to ripen ... Due to its increased cold resistance, this cabbage can be planted at the earliest possible date.

Cabbage variety Amager 611

A semi-spreading rosette with raised, protruding leaves, has an average size (70 - 80 cm). The length of the outer stump is 15 - 28 cm, the inner one is 16 - 20 cm. The type of leaves is whole or indistinct. The leaf blade is broadly ovoid, rounded, truncated, concave, rarely flat, downward, 40-50 cm long, 35-45 cm wide. Petioles are medium-sized (10-15 cm), bordered by a downward-running plate. The capped leaves are strongly concave. The surface of the leaves is smooth or slightly wrinkled, gray-green in color, with a strong waxy bloom. The edge is slightly coarse and smooth. The venation is semi-fan-shaped. The head of cabbage is very dense, round-flat (sometimes round or flat-convex), weighing 2.5 - 4 kg. Productivity - 5 - 6 kg / sq. meter. The marketable yield is 35 - 65 tons per hectare. Mechanized harvesting and long-distance transportation is possible.

Cabbage variety Amager 611

Amager 611 is recommended for long-term winter storage, during which its taste increases. At the time of harvest, the leaves are rough, with a pronounced bitterness. By spring, the cabbage becomes juicy, the bitterness disappears.

This variety shows weak resistance to such common cabbage diseases as fusarium wilting (black rot) and vascular bacteriosis. During storage, damage by punctate necrosis and gray rot is possible.

Cabbage variety Amager 611

The advantages of Amager 611 cabbage include: increased keeping quality and transportability, resistance to head cracking, frost resistance, high and stable yield.

Among the disadvantages, it is worth noting the low heat resistance.

Amager cabbage appeared on the site a long time ago, back in 2007. During use, this variety has shown itself to be high productivity, good storage. We grow from seedlings, plant them in the ground when the spring night frosts pass and the soil temperature warms up at least +10 ° C. Demanding to watering. The head of the cabbage is small, weight 1.5 - 2 kg, with an excess of moisture, it does not burst. Ideal for making stuffed cabbage and sauerkraut. It does not boil when cooking soups and stewing. Good taste.

Amager was planted for several years in a row. The heads are small and dense. If eaten immediately, from the garden, then it is not very tasty - fibrous, with bitterness. Not suitable for fermentation. We plant it in small quantities to be used closer to spring. It keeps well in a dry cellar. If wet, it may deteriorate. We plant seedlings of this variety in the same way as others. One year they sowed seeds directly into the ground, covered the seedlings with jars, then left the strongest one.

I love this cabbage for its beautifully formed heads of cabbage, but most of all for its long storage in winter. Seeds are sown for seedlings in mid-May, in special cassettes with 576 cells. 3 weeks after germination, we pick and transplant into another cassette with larger cells. In late June - early July, we plant it in open ground. The seedlings of this variety are strong, the survival rate of plants after transplanting is 85 - 90%.During the growing season, cabbage shows resistance to diseases, but pests like it, and here we spray with insecticides every 2 weeks. We plant cabbage immediately after harvesting early potatoes, weather conditions allow us to do this, and the territory is not empty. We collect it in September and put it in storage. During the winter we can lose from 5 to 10% of the harvest, but these are trifles.

Planted on seedlings. Some strange long leg has grown. Do you need to transplant a new one?

I want to plant 5 hectares, but I think everyone is praising or advertising. In Amager seeds, sellers do not give a guarantee. Here I think what to do and where to get the seeds from the guarantee. What do you think, is it worth the risk or not with Amager?
